Start and end dates

You must restart fixed-term teachers and term-time only auto-paid non-teachers who are returning to your school in 2019. This involves recording their start and end dates in Novopay, so that their pay will be calculated from the correct date.

Fixed-term teachers

If Then
If a fixed-term teacher is starting before 28 January

Complete a NOVO2t form.

They will be paid from the start date advised by the school on the NOVO2t form. If the start date overlaps with holiday pay, they will be paid from the day after holiday pay ends.

If a fixed-term teacher is starting between 28 January and 7 February Enter 28 January as their start date in the Start of Year screen. Also enter their end date.

Their pay will be backdated to 28 January.

Note: If the teacher is new to the payroll, they will be paid from the start date advised by the school on the NOVO1t form.
If a fixed-term teacher is starting after 7 February because they are taking leave without pay Enter 28 January as their start date in the Start of Year screen. Also enter their end date.

Book LWOP from 28 January to the day before they return.

They will be paid from the day after their LWOP ends.
If a fixed-term teacher is starting after 7 February and is not taking LWOP Complete a NOVO6 form to terminate them.
Restart them using a NOVO1t form.

Term-time only auto-paid non-teachers

You will need to enter the start and end dates for all term-time only auto-paid non-teachers in the Start of Year screen. These employees will be paid from the start date advised by the school in the Start of Year screen.

If their start date overlaps with annual leave, check their leave bookings. Enter the day after the annual leave ends as the start date. Then submit a time sheet, as per usual process, for the hours that overlap with the annual leave. Use the code TXTRA - Extra Time.

Note: To check leave bookings, run the transaction report from My Reporting > School Reports in Novopay Online.
