News for School Payroll Staff

Tena koutou,

It's a busy time of year with industrial action, collective agreement changes and the ongoing day-to-day payroll activities to ensure your school staff are paid accurately and on time.

From me, it's time to say E noho ra, Tofa loa, Noo ake ra, Mou o aa, Tofa la, Moce Mada, Koe kia, Tofa ni and farewell.

I will be leaving Education Payroll early next month to move to another part of the education sector. It has been a privilege to get to know and work with such dedicated school payroll administrators and Education Payroll teams who are passionate about getting things right for our colleagues in schools.

As I will be remaining in the sector, I will watch the new EdPay service rolled out with excitement and I leave knowing you will continue to receive the dedicated support of your payroll adviser.

Nga mihi

Reminder: Queen's Birthday - 03 June

Due to the Queen's Birthday public holiday, you will only receive two SUE Reports for Pay Period 05:

  • First Draft SUE was available yesterday Thursday 30 May, and includes Termination Pay
  • Final Draft SUE will be available tomorrow Saturday 01 June

You will not receive a second Draft SUE. STOP PAYS will continue as normal on Tuesday 04 June.

ACC Forms from ACC

If you or your employees have received an ACC Form (ACC3, ACC72, ACC38, etc) from ACC directly, please send them through to the ACC Team at support@novopay.govt.nz. We are working with ACC to make this process easier in the future.

For more information regarding ACC, please check the ACC page under the Quick Links or by clicking this link: www.novopay.govt.nz/Site/Tools_to_help_you/A-Z-of-Payroll/A/ACC-Claim---Starting-a-Claim.aspx

Strike deductions will not be processed this pay day

Employees who participated in industrial action on May 29 will not be paid for the hours they were on strike.

Due to when the Industrial Action fell in the payroll cycle, any strike deductions will not be processed until Pay Period 06 (payday: 19 June).

Impacted employees will receive a notice from the Ministry advising them that they have been overpaid as a requirement of the Wages Protection Act 1983. This is simply a notification - they will not need to do anything.

School Caretakers', Cleaners' and Canteen Staff Collective Agreement Variation

We are currently implementing changes resulting from the recent variation to the School Caretakers', Cleaners' and Canteen Staff Collective Agreement.

Given the volume of changes, these will take place in both Pay Period 05 and Pay Period 06. The changes may appear on your SUE reports for Pay Period 05. All changes will be complete by Pay Period 06.

The updated School Caretakers', Cleaners' and Canteen Staff Collective Agreement is available on the Ministry of Education's Website.
