13 March 2014

Good afternoon.

We want to advise payroll administrators that school staff with a Special Tax Code will need to either renew this with Inland Revenue or establish a new standard tax code prior to the end of the tax year. This is because all Special Tax Codes expire automatically on 31 March 2014. This is an annual Inland Revenue process.

We have written to individual staff who are currently on a Special Tax Code to let them know what they need to do.

These staff will need to advise you of the tax code they want, so that you can instruct Novopay on their behalf.

It is very important that affected staff actively choose a tax code for 2014-15; otherwise, the employee will default to an ND tax rate (no-notification). This is a considerably higher tax rate for most people.

In order to take effect for Pay Period 1 (paid on Wednesday 2 April), please send the relevant information to Novopay on a NOVO4 form by 24 March 2014.

Thank you.
