Appoint an acting principal
There can be only one principal role set up for each school in the Education Service Payroll. If a permanent teacher acts in the position of principal in the same school for a period of more than two school weeks, a Higher Duties Allowance is paid, in accordance with the terms of their employment agreement. See Employing and managing staff on the EDUCATION.govt.nz website.
To apply a Higher Duties Allowances, complete a NOVO28t form.
Authorised user access to the Novopay Service
There can be only one Novopay authorised user with Principal access at each school. In the principal's absence, the following options are available:
- Do not request authorised user access for the acting principal. Other authorised users can make changes for employees in NOL, except for themselves and other school-wide administrators. Changes for these exceptions will need to be made via form.
- Request School-wide administrator access for the acting principal. They can make changes for employees in NOL, except for themselves and other school-wide administrators. Changes for these exceptions will need to be made via form.
- If the principal will be absent for a long period of time and the school has a number of school-wide administrators, it may be easier to cancel the principal's access and request Principal access for the acting principal. This will need to be reversed when the principal returns.
To request or cancel authorised user access, see Request access to Novopay Service.
