End of Year opens 2020

News for School Payroll Staff

Tena koutou,

End of Year opens on Tuesday next week (October 20).

End of Year is an annual payroll process that ensures all employees are paid correctly over the Term 4 holidays. It can seem complicated, but really there are just four questions:

  • Your school's Term 4 end date?
  • Which employee's jobs are ending (terminating) in Term 4?
  • Which employees' will have a last day for 2020 that is different to your school's Term 4 end date?
  • Have you booked annual leave for your 52-week workers?

Schools must have submitted this information by 5pm, 23 November 2020, but you can start anytime from next Tuesday.

Step-by-step process

All End of Year information is now available at www.novopay.govt.nz.

Check your access

The End of Year processes are done in special screens in Novopay online. As all Novopay online passwords expire every 60 days, yours may need resetting. Your Payroll Adviser can help with this.

Tell us who to contact during term break

Sometimes we need to check your EoY information after schools have closed. We need the name and phone number of your school's lead payroll administrator (or Principal) as your school's number probably won't be answered then. If you've already told us as part of the recent End of Year / Start of Year survey, you don't need to do anything. Otherwise let us know the right contact by email to support@novopay.govt.nz with 'out of hours contact' in the subject line.

End of Year training

If you're new to End of Year, or it's been a while, there's a detailed training module available. Log in, go to modules and then search for 'End of Year'.

Remember to click the 'EoY complete' button

It's the last step, but it's sometimes missed. Remember to click the 'EoY complete' button by 5pm on 23 November, even if your school doesn't have any changes.

We're here to help

We know End of Year can be confusing, but we're here to help. If you're struggling, contact your payroll adviser early. We'll have more time to help you get things sorted.

Best wishes everyone!
