1. Additional payments for non-union primary principals

Under the Primary Principals’ (NZEI) Collective Agreement, full-time principals employed as at 3 July 2023, will receive a one-off gross payment of $1,500.

This lump sum will be paid in pay period 17 (pay day 14 November), provided that both the principal and the employer signed the new Individual Employment Agreement (IEA) by 3 November 2023, and Education Payroll been notified of this on an EP22 form.

Any new EP22 forms sent in to notify us that the principal and employer has signed a new IEA will be paid in the next available pay period.

Principals who were on approved unpaid leave as at 3 July 2023 are entitled to receive the $1,500 payment on their return to their position providing that they return on or before the end of term 3 2024, or on or before the start of term 1 2025 for those on parental leave. The amount payable will be based on the principal’s full-time earning equivalent (FTTE) as at their last working day before going on leave. These applications should be made on an EP31 form.

2. Additional payments for non-union secondary teachers

Under the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement, full-time teachers who were employed as at 9 August 2023 and who are on an IEA will receive a one-off gross payment of $5,000.
This lump sum will be paid in pay period 17 (pay day 14 November), provided that both the teacher and the employer signed the new IEA by 8 October 2023 and the change had been made in the IEA change screen in EdPay by 6 November 2023.

Lump sum payments for secondary teachers on the new IEA will be made from the funding code that applied on 9 August 2023 (date of ratification).
Where a teacher is employed from a school’s bulk grant or operating funding, the school board is responsible for the payment of any associated costs, including any collective agreement entitlements that arise. This is in accordance with section 580(b) of the Education and Training Act 2020.

Secondary teachers who were on approved unpaid leave as at 9 August 2023 are entitled, on application, to receive the applicable payments on their return to their position, providing that they return either on or before the end of term 1 2024, or on or before 3 July 2025 for those on parental leave. The payment(s) will be based on the teacher’s FTTE hours as at their last working day before going on leave. Schools will need to apply for this on the teacher’s behalf using the EP31 form.

3. Additional payments for non-union area school principals

Under the Area School Principals’ Collective Agreement, principals employed as at 3 July 2023 who were on an IEA will receive a one-off gross payment of $1,500.

This lump sum will be paid in pay period 17 (pay day 14 November), provided that both the principal and the employer signed the new IEA by 22 September 2023 and Education Payroll been notified of this on an EP22 form.

Any new EP22 forms sent in to notify us that the principal and employer has signed a new IEA will be paid in the next available pay period.

The payment will be pro-rated for part-time principals based on their FTTE as at 3 July 2023.

Principals are entitled to receive this payment only once. If a principal is or was entitled to receive a lump sum under another collective agreement that has come into force since 30 November 2022, any payment already received will be deducted from this lump sum.

Principals who were on approved unpaid leave as at 3 July 2023 are entitled to receive the $1,500 payment on their return to their position providing that they return on or before the end of term 3 2024, or on or before the start of term 1 2025 for those on parental leave. The amount payable will be based on the principal’s FTTE hours as at their last working day before going on leave. Applications should be made on an EP31 form.
