1. Primary Principals' (NZEI) employment agreement changes

Principals covered by the Primary Principals’(NZEI) Collective Agreement will be paid at the new rates from pay period 14 (pay day 3 October). These rates will be backdated to 3 July 2023.

For principals who have signed the new Primary Principals’ Individual Employment Agreement (IEA), and we have been notified of this on an EP22 form, the new pay rates will also be applied from 3 October. These rates will be backdated to the date they signed the new IEA.

2. Area School Principals' employment agreement changes

Principals covered by the Area School Principals’ Collective Agreement will be paid at the new rates from 3 October. These rates will be backdated to 3 July 2023.

For non-union principals who have signed the new Area School Principals’ Individual Employment Agreement (IEA), and we have been notified of this on an EP22 form, the new pay rates will also be applied from 3 October. These rates will be backdated to the date they signed the new agreement.

Additional payments

Principals covered by the Area School Principals’ Collective Agreement who were members of NZEI Te Riu Roa or PPTA Te Wehengarua on 27 July 2023 will receive one-off gross payments of:

  • $2,000 (pro-rated for part-time), and
  • $710

Principals covered by this agreement who were employed on 3 July 2023 will also receive a one-off gross payment of:

  • $1,500 (pro-rated for part-time).

This payment is subject to clause 1.10.7 of the agreement that says: If a principal is or was entitled to be paid a lump sum payment(s) under another collective agreement that binds employees of school boards and that has come into force since 30 November 2022, then the amount of that payment will be deducted from the $1,500 and/or $710 payment.
