Agreement updates for Primary Teachers and Principals

Now that the Primary Principals' and Primary Teachers' Collectives have been settled we need to make sure that people are represented correctly. We are basing our information on union membership lists given to us by the New Zealand Educational Institute Te Riu Roa (NZEI Te Riu Roa). The lists are of union members since 9 June 2016 - the day the settlements were finalised.

Settlements only apply to people who are members of New Zealand Educational Institute Te Riu Roa (NZEI Te Riu Roa) on and after the date the settlements were signed. These people are automatically updated to the new collective agreement rates and conditions.

What will you notice?

Employees who are not or who are no longer members of NZEI Te Riu Roa union will move from the Primary Full Time or Part Time CA to the Primary Full Time or Part Time IEA13 on your Staff Usage and Expenditure Report (SUE)

Employees who are members of NZEI Te Riu Roa union, but whose agreements were not updated when they joined, will move from the Primary Full Time or Part Time IEA to the Primary Full Time or Part Time CA on your SUE.

You may also notice that some staff move from older Individual Employment Agreement's (prior to 2013) onto a later Individual Employment Agreement. This is because we've noticed these employees signed later agreements, but not all their current Primary Teaching jobs were updated. We have corrected this which will mean these employees will get some back pay.

Settlement of the Primary Principals' Collective Agreement

Increases resulting from the signing of the Primary Principals' Collective Agreement will be processed in pay period 10 (pay day 17 August).

As part of the settlement, principals who are members of the NZEI will receive arrears back to 2 May 2016. You don't need to do anything to make the change for union members - Novopay will automatically make the salary and allowances increases.

You will need to submit a NOVO22t for principals on an Individual Employment Agreement who have signed the new agreement. These will be processed from pay period 10, and will include arrears from the date the principal signed the new agreement.

Please note that Individual Employment Agreements are only effective from 29 June 2016 - the date they were signed and promulgated by the Secretary for Education.
